The Association (NPA) is a professional body representing practitioners and students of the complementary/natural medicine profession.
It was first formed and registered on the 14th of January, 1988 in the state of South Australia as the first and only Naturopathic association.
It is a democratically elected organisation.
It is today registered nationally as an Australian Registerable Body (ARBN 073 934 522) and has members in most states of Australia.

It is also a registered Schedule 1 Association under the Federal Therapeutic Goods Act.
Federation (FNTT) Membership
NPA is also a signatory member of the Federation of Natural and Traditional Therapists (FNTT) which is the only peak , democratically elected body of complimentary medicine in Australia. Besides the NPA being a member of the FNTT, each individual member of the Association is also enrolled and registered as an FNTT practitioner member. There are numerous advantages for the NPA member from this.
The NPA is also recognised by most health fund companies and professional naturopathic practitioner members can generally receive a provider number for health fund rebates for their patients from participating health funds.
Anyone is entitled to join as a Professional Naturopathic member, Student member or Associate member.
This requires the completion of the Association’s Application Form and payment of applicable fees. Applications for professional membership are assessed by the NPA's Accreditation Board (NPAAB) which may accredit the applicant and recommend membership if the applicant is successful.
